Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has stated that Benue was not part of sectional agitations in the country for seccession.
He spoke at a meeting with traditional rulers and leaders of various communities in the state at the new Banquet Hall of the Benue People’s House, Makurdi.
The Governor said what the people and government of the state stood for was for peaceful coexistence of the various groups within its borders.
He stressed that indigenes of the state in their thousands had paid the supreme price for the unity of the country adding that the people still stand for one indivisible Nigeria.
Governor Ortom warned agitators and trouble makers to keep away from the state saying he would personally go after anyone formenting trouble in the state, assuring members of various communities of their safety.
He pledged to boost security operations with more vehicles and gadgets in order to enable them discharge their responsibilities in securing lives and property.
In separate responses, the Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse and Och’ Idoma Dr Elias Obekpa dissociated themselves from those giving quite notices to other groups in the state and expressed support to the Governor’s peace initiatives.
Others who spoke including, Oba Kayode Odunuga, Godfrey Ogboro, Alhaji Mustapha Garba and Chief Chuks Albert for the South West, South South, Muslim Community and the South East respectively commended the Governor for his proactive security initiatives.
